Which dating site is right for you?

Posted by controversial1 on November 26, 2008

I have a great interest in dating sites.  It seems that this “new” way of finding a partner is here to stay.  Dating site users are expected to spend more than $1 billion dollars this coming year in fees while looking for love. Further to that, online social networking seems to be the venue of choice for those that are married and looking to find a suitable match.

I happened upon a site today: http://www.datingsitesreviews.com

This site offers detailed reviews on the most popular Dating Web Sites out there. With the Online Dating Services reviewed all in one spot it will be easier to see which site is more suited to you as a person. You will find out how each site works and how much it approximately costs. Most sites do offer free submitting of your dating profile and searching of matching profiles but to communicate with someone you will have to purchase a subscription or buy credits to that particular site. No popular dating site is completely free.

What I found interesting was the fact that there was no links to Plentyoffish on this site as well as the line that I have bolded above: “No popular dating site is completely free.”

What I found odd about this was the day before I was reading an article that stated that Plentyoffish is now the largest dating site in the US. It did not state how they determined the #1 spot but it would seem that there is some discrepancy in the information provided by these sites.

My point is that Plentyoffish IS popular and IS free.  I don’t particularily like the site, but I would think it should be on a dating site review site, should it not?

Plentyoffish – A Dating Site

Posted by controversial1 on November 17, 2008

I started using the site in late 2004 and I found it to be really good AND it was a free dating site.  There was a reasonable selection of local women and if I sent off an introduction I was almost always assured of a reply.  I met a wonderful woman on the site in early 2005 and had no further reason to participate in the “fishing contest”.

In 2006 I found myself back on the site.  The rules of the site had changed.  I used to post pictures similar to the ones that are in my blog.  They were like a lure if you will and I received lots of correspondence regarding them.  Markus, the owner of POF, likes to be called “Creator” changed it so that no pictures that didn’t show a full unobstructed view of the profiler’s face would be deleted.  I was not interested in posting my picture at that time, so my ability to meet new persons was severely limited by this move.

The site owner…oops Creator, Mr. Markus Frind seems to be the poster boy for megalomaniacal entrepreneurs.  He comes across as arrogant, egotistical, while at the same time insecure.  That insecurity drives his insane little censorship campaign against any mention of rival dating sites, certain words or any “free” expression of disapproval of his dating site, including suggestions by his users.   His story is that he created Plentyoffish because he was tired of pay sites ripping off those that were looking for love but don’t kid yourself, this man is all business. His site, his rules. Don’t you forget it!
I ultimately ended up getting completely banned because of my open discussion of the short-comings of his site.  In an way it is a blessing as I have more time to focus on my blog.  I found I was spending far too much time writing to and responding to “less-than-worthy” individuals.  Thank you Markus!

If you Google his site you will find 100’s of stories form similar disappointed site users.  I understand that the administrator needs to have some control over content but considering the man claims to be an expert in coding, he is overly lame in his general explanations of how things work on the site.
